New District Printing Solution Supports Technology in the Classroom Initiatives while Reducing Print Volumes by 25 Percent

Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. (Konica Minolta) today announces that Briarcliff Manor School District in Briarcliff Manor, New York has implemented a comprehensive print solution from Konica Minolta as part of its PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness of College and Careers) initiative. Leveraging Konica Minolta’s EnvisionIT Education platform, the complete solution helped the district reduce printing volumes by 25 percent while expanding print and document management capabilities to teachers and staff.

With PARCC guidelines scheduled to go into effect for the 2015-2016 school year, Briarcliff School District needed to update its technology infrastructure to meet this and other educational standard initiatives. In addition to implementing a virtual technology environment from VMware® Horizon View™, the district replaced its aging printer fleet with 96 new Konica Minolta bizhub multifunctional printers (MFPs) and added Nuance Equitrac for Follow-You Printing capabilities as well as Nuance eCopy ShareScan for advanced document capture and scanning.

“Konica Minolta was the only solution that met our requirements and worked seamlessly with our virtual technology environment,”says Erica Beasley, Chief Technology & Information Officer, Briarcliff Manor School District. “Our new integrated Konica Minolta print and imaging solution allows us to provide staff and students with greater access to technology resources both inside the classroom and from home. More importantly, the District is now ready to begin the PARCC assessment testing phase and will be ready for the 2015-2016 school year.”

Using Equitrac Follow-You Printing capabilities, Briarcliff is able to set up one virtual printer that allows teachers, staff and students to submit print jobs and retrieve them from any bizhub MFP located throughout the schools using their individual ID number or building key cards. Briarcliff students and staff are able to print documents from any desktop computer, laptop, tablet, or mobile phone to a bizhub MFP using Equitrac.  Students can print homework, assignments or even club fliers at home and retrieve them at one of the school’s bizhub MFPs the next day.

To simplify devices in the elementary school, the District replaced all of its classroom printers and scanners with bizhub C35 Color All-in-one Printers. Teachers can now print or scan in color from one device. The added color capabilities allow teachers to enhance the educational experience for younger students. With eCopy ShareScan, teachers have the ability to scan in color and display images on the interactive whiteboards reducing the need for printed materials.

“Konica Minolta EnvisionIT Education is helping schools work smarter and meet state and national technology standards by providing integrated solutions that streamline processes, ensure document security and provide schools with advanced print and document management capabilities,” says Kevin Kern, senior vice president, Marketing, Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. “Our customers can count on Konica Minolta to provide tailored solutions designed to meet their specific industry needs and requirements.”

US company claims to have developed world’s first multi-coloured 3D printer

A US company claims to have developed the world’s first multi-material full-colour 3D printer capable of making objects of hard, soft and flexible polymers.

The 3D printer developed by Stratasys features “triple-jetting” technology that combines droplets of three base materials, reducing the need for separate print runs and painting.

This ability to achieve the characteristics of an assembled part without assembly or painting is a significant time-saver, the company said.

It helps product manufacturers validate designs and make good decisions earlier before committing to manufacturing, and bring products to market faster, it said.

“I believe our new Objet500 Connex3 Colour Multi-material 3D Printer will transform the way our customers design, engineer and manufacture new products,” said Stratasys CEO David Reis.

Engineers at beta user Trek Bicycle in Waterloo, Wisconsin are using the 3D Printer for assessment and testing of accessories like bike chain stay guards and handlebar grips prior to actual production.

“Now we produce bicycle parts that look and feel like production parts. We are particularly excited about 3D printing our models directly in colour,” said Mike Zeigle, manager of Trek’s prototype development group.

Similar to a 2D inkjet printer, three colour materials – VeroCyan, VeroMagenta and VeroYellow – are combined to produce hundreds of vivid colours, the company said.

These colour materials join a range of PolyJet photopolymer materials including digital materials, rigid, rubber-like, transparent, and high temperature materials to simulate standard and high temperature engineering plastics.

The 3D Printer also features six palettes for new rubber-like Tango colours, ranging from opaque to transparent colours in various shore values to address markets such as automotive, consumer and sporting goods and fashion.

Konica Minolta Maintains CR Market Leadership

Image

Konica Minolta Medical Imaging announced today that for the eighth year in a row, the company is the top rated CR solutions vendor in the U.S. according to MD Buyline survey results. MD Buyline is a leading, independent provider of evidence-based information and vendor rankings are based on actual user satisfaction composite ratings.

Konica Minolta received the highest ranking across all six categories and was the only company to receive a 9.0 or higher in each of the categories. Additionally, Konica Minolta has been the only company to maintain a composite rating of 9.0 or higher since the first quarter of 2012. In the last two quarters of 2013, Konica Minolta has maintained its 9.0+ rating while the market average of all vendors declined.

“The latest MD Buyline results are further testament to the superiority of Konica Minolta CR solutions customer experience, particularly in the areas of performance, post sale support, and reliability,” says Diane Hunt, Vice President, Marketing, The America’s. “We are very proud to deliver products and services that exceed our customers’ expectations.  We and our distribution partners are committed to raising the industry bar for expected level of product features and quality, post sales service and applications training across all of Konica Minolta’s Primary Imaging Solutions.”

In the latest survey, MD Buyline reported that rather than eliminating CR technology, customers are placing their CR units in strategic areas where the use of CR remains an optimal workflow solution. MD Buyline noted that customers continue to use CR technology in conjunction with DR technology.  Konica Minolta CR solutions, REGIUS, Nano and ImagePilot CR remain at the top of the list for buyers’ future purchases of CR due to the high uptime levels noted in the MD Buyline survey.

Y Soft declared one of Europe’s top 100 companies

Image

We’ve (Y Soft) received a nice surprise from the 2013/14 European Business Awards (EBA) – Y Soft won the prestigious Ruban d’ Honneur prize in the Import / Export category. This means we are now officially one of the 100 most successful European companies doing business today.
In this international competition, the EBA expert jury first nominated 527 national winners from 2,175 competing companies. Last November we let you know that we had been chosen as one of the winning nominees. Then from these 527 nominees, 100 companies in ten categories were presented Ruban d’ Honneur awards, based on votes by the expert jury and the general public.

The jury will select one final winner from each category. A representative of each of the 100 nominees will meet in London in early March to present their company’s success story to the jury. Y Soft Executive Director himself, Václav Muchna, will defend the Y Soft colors. The final winners will be announced and awards presented at a gala evening ceremony in Athens on May 22.

The prize in the Import / Export category, which Y Soft has now won, is awarded to organizations that demonstrate a consistently positive trend in the import and export of goods and expanded coverage in existing or new markets by means of creative and innovative operating processes. The award is also based on the company’s demonstrated ability to be resilient and to positively influence the development of international trade.

Hewlett-Packard to repay $459K in state incentives

Image

CONWAY, Ark. (AP) — Hewlett-Packard Co. has negotiated to repay $459,000 of the state incentives it received to build a customer-service center in Conway after falling short on hiring goals, according to the Arkansas Economic Development Commission.

The company received $10 million from an incentive fund the governor controls to go toward infrastructure for the Conway center, but the agreement included provisions for the state to reclaim money if employment goals aren’t met. The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported Wednesday (http://bit.ly/1kXLcif ) that a clawback provision in HP’s incentive agreement was triggered by the company’s failure to have 1,000 full-time employees after five years.

The company laid off 500 workers last summer at its customer-support center in Conway, which opened in 2010. But HP announced in December that it would be hiring 200 software programmers and analysts— jobs that will pay more than those eliminated last summer.

“We don’t view this as negative by any means,” said Scott Hardin, spokesman for the Arkansas Economic Development Commission. “The agreement is set up to encourage the company to hire more employees.”

Sarah Pompei, global media relations director for Hewlett-Packard, declined comment Tuesday as to whether any of those hires have been made yet.

“HP is deeply committed to our employees and the communities in which they live and work. We will continue to abide by the terms and obligations of the commitments we have with government agencies,” she said.

Konica Minolta makes history with winning the A3 MFP Line of the Year Award for the fourth year in a row

There could hardly be a better start for Konica Minolta into 2014 than with winning the BLI’s A3 MFP Line of the Year for the fourth time in a row – unparalleled in the decades-long history of BLI Awards.

Each year Buyers Lab, world’s leading provider of information and testing services to the document-imaging industry, awards the vendor whose product line is best, based on an extensive list of criteria. Konica Minolta convinced the jury across all areas – reliability, image quality, ease of use and productivity. In addition, Konica Minolta has also won four individual device awards following BLI Pick of the Year Awards for the bizhub C364e, bizhub C454e, bizhub 554e and the Mono Printer for Mid-Size Workgroups bizhub 4700P.

BLI A3 MFP Line of the Year 2014“To be awarded A3 Line of the Year already for the fourth time in a row is an extraordinary honour for us. This prestigious award fills us with pride and confirmation for our continuous efforts to enable our customers’ businesses. With the development of new top-class products as well as offering future-proof software and services, we – i.e. our customers and Konica Minolta together – are well positioned for continued growth”, says Olaf Lorenz, General Manager, International Marketing Division Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe. The fact that the company has been awarded with this accolade for the fourth year in a row speaks for itself: Konica Minolta is known for its customer centricity and understanding of its partners’ challenges; a development that is being mirrored by Konica Minolta’s evolution from a hardware to a services provider in recent years.

The assessment considers criteria such as the breadth of the vendor’s line and its ability to provide quality products suitable to a broad spectrum of customer needs, from low-volume to high-volume. “What it boils down to with Konica Minolta is consistency,” said George Mikolay, BLI’s senior product editor for A3/Copier MFPs. “Whereas competing lines may stand out in certain speed bands, or in either colour or black, Konica Minolta’s engines stand out across the board – in reliability, ease of use and image quality – in virtually all speed bands in both colour and black. No other vendor brings the same quality of performance across its product line to the same degree.” BLI Managing Editor Daria Hoffman underlines: “What Konica Minolta has achieved with a fourth consecutive Line of the Year win is unprecedented. The fact that year after year Konica Minolta continues to surpass the competition is a testament to the sustained quality of its A3 line.”

Reliability has proven to be the quality most important to buyers, and Konica Minolta’s product line has proven its mettle in this regard. Its current A3 products have logged more than 1.5 million impressions in BLI’s lab with consistently reliable performance. “In fact,” said Mikolay, “at real-world monthly usage volumes, it would take five Konica Minolta devices before users would experience even a single misfeed a month among them.” BLI Manager of Laboratory Testing Pete Emory added, “The reliability Konica Minolta devices have consistently shown, from the low end to the high end, truly separates its line from others we have tested.” And the fact that Konica Minolta’s devices have user-replaceable colour drums means that, unlike with many competitive devices, a service call is not required to replace them – a design that maximizes uptime.”

Furthermore, Konica Minoltas bizhub C364e, bizhub C454e, bizhub 554e and bizhub 4700P have won the BLI Pick of the Year Awards in the speed ranges from 31- to 40-ppm, 41- to 50-ppm and 51- to 60-ppm. Similarly to the “Pick”-winner of the previous year – bizhub C364, bizhub C454 and bizhub C554 – the tested products of Konica Minolta are convincing with their reliability and quality during the whole printing process. Their – over all devices identical – multi-touch operation and panel customisation allow operating the device panel like a smartphone or tablet PC. This asset of overall consistency regarding functionality and usability also applies to Konica Minolta’s software and OpenAPI as well as IWS application platform. Users benefit from the easy, intuitive usability and the option to customise the user interface to their needs. Besides the efficient productivity and performance improvement, the bizhub C364e, bizhub C454e, bizhub 554e boast in addition an enhanced scan function which allows for the creation of Word or Excel documents directly on the user’s PC. Especially the bizhub C364e and the bizhub 554e impressed the jury. “Add it all up and the bizhub C364e provides users with uptime that its peers in this speed band just can’t match,” said BLI Research Editor Jessica Schiffenhaus. BLI Manager of Laboratory Testing Pete Emory added, “The bizhub 554e offers many great features, but above all, it’s proven to be very reliable.”

Beside the “Pick”-winning bizhub C364e and bizhub C454e, Konica Minolta’s currently available A3 business colour models include the highly recommended bizhub C224e, bizhub C284e, bizhub C554e; the bizhub C654e and bizhub C754e. Konica Minolta’s currently available A3 monochrome models include the “Pick”-winning bizhub 554e, and the Highly Recommended bizhub 364e, as well as the bizhub 215, bizhub 224e, bizhub 284e, bizhub 454e, bizhub 654e and bizhub 754e.

Konica Minolta also offers production devices, including the PRO-Award winning bizhub PRESS C7000 (2012) and bizhub PRESS 1250/1250P (2014), which further add to the scope and breadth of Konica Minolta’s offerings.
